Once upon a time, in a quiet suburban neighborhood, there lived a sweet little boy kitten named Chance. He was a playful and curious feline, always exploring his surroundings with wide eyes and a bushy tail.
One sunny afternoon, tragedy struck when a careless driver intentionally ran over Chance and left him to suffer on the side of the road. A local family witnessed the accident (If you can call it that) and took Chance in. For five agonizing days, the poor kitten lay in pain, unable to move and desperately seeking help, but no rescue or vet clinic would step up to help him. His once vibrant spirit began to fade as he struggled to survive.
But just when hope seemed lost, the family reached out to ARK Pet Rescue and asked if they could take him in. They saw Chance and his spirit to live and took him in immediately. They knew he needed immediate medical attention to have any chance of survival.
Chance was taken to the PCC's Vet Tech Program, where dedicated veterinary technicians carefully conducted X-rays to assess the extent of his injuries. The results were heartbreaking. Chance had suffered severe damage to his abdominal wall and his leg was in critical condition. It was a race against time to save his life.
Without hesitation, Chance was transferred to the skilled hands of the veterinarians at Tanasbourne Veterinary Emergency. With expertise and determination, they performed emergency surgery to repair his abdominal wall, hoping to give the brave kitten a fighting chance at a normal life. They also worked tirelessly to save his leg, knowing how important it was for his mobility and overall well-being.
Hours turned into what felt like an eternity as the surgical team worked diligently to mend Chance's fragile body. Finally, the surgery came to an end, and the exhausted doctors and vet techs sighed with relief. Chance had made it through, and although his leg was still intact, the battle was not over.
Over the next few days, Chance amazed everyone with his resilient spirit. Despite the pain and discomfort, he purred, played, and ate all the yummy foods offered to him. The doctors and vet techs marveled at his remarkable personality and the strength he displayed in the face of adversity.
However, as time went on, it became apparent that Chance's injured leg would not heal properly. It was a difficult decision, but the veterinary team determined that amputation was the best course of action to ensure Chance's future mobility and quality of life. So, once again, Chance underwent surgery, this time to have his leg amputated.
The little kitten took everything in stride, accepting his new reality without complaint. He adapted to life on three legs with astonishing grace, never letting his disability dampen his spirit. Chance continued to win over the hearts of everyone he encountered, from the doctors and vet techs to the volunteers and visitors at ARK Pet Rescue.
News of Chance's incredible journey spread throughout the neighborhood, and people couldn't help but be inspired by his resilience and courage. He became a symbol of hope and a testament to the power of love and compassion. The once broken and discarded kitten had become a shining example of what it meant to overcome adversity.
Until the unthinkable happened. Chance stopped peeing. His foster parent raced Chance back to the skilled hands of Tanasbourne and the fight to save Chance once again, began. Chance being the playful sweet boy he was, took everything in stride. Playing with the technicians without understanding the gravity of the situation. After many tests, the news was delivered that nothing could be done to restore Chance's ability to pass urine. It was discovered that during the healing process of getting ran over, his urethra had sealed shut and due to Chance's age and size nothing could be done. But ARK Pet Rescue knew they couldn't give up. So Chance went back into surgery to see if anything could be done. There was a less than 20% chance of success, but this little miracle kitten deserved it.
However, the surgery didn't go as planned and the sweet Chance was let go under the love and cuddles of all the technicians and doctors who had worked so tirelessly to save him. It didn't seem real. That a vibrant kitten, full of life, love and a story of miracles, had come to an end.

Chancey boy. It's your foster mama. I was there when we picked you up and raced you to PCC. Your vibrant spirit, playful heart, and will to live was inspiring. You purred the whole way to the hospital. Staff were amazed by you and you impacted so many lives. There are so many things I wish I could tell you, but I just want to say this. Thank you for letting me love you. Thank you for teaching me strength. You brought joy to my home and all those that followed your story. I wanted to let you know that we found your brothers and sisters and they are safe now too. They are sleeping on the blankets that you had. I wonder if they can smell you. I promise to keep them safe and provide for them what you will never get to have. I love you, and I think about you all the time. Fly high sweet angel boy.
